Beata Heuman’s New de Gournay Collaboration Captures a World In Bloom
When Beata Heuman, a London-based interior designer, was looking to breathe new life into her 18th-century farmhouse in southern Sweden, she turned to a brand famous for its transportive power. She worked with de Gournay, long known for its hand-painted wallpapers and coverings, to sheathe her dining room in an enchanting panorama, also unlocking a core childhood memory along the way.
Collaborating with de Gournay’s master artisans, Heuman crafted a whimsical scene inspired by the gardens of the ancient Villa Livia in Rome. She infused it with Swedish flora—specifically the flowers and trees from the home where she grew up—for a personal touch.
Lily Allen’s return is wrapped up in Swedish design – shop the pieces
Selections from the Beata Heuman x Mille Notti collection featured in Allen’s work include the 'Willow Ink' duvet cover and pillowcases. Crafted in a light blue percale – which Heuman values for its simplicity and matte texture – the name is a tribute to the unglazed porcelain tableware that was popular in England from the late 1800s. 'Powder' also features an elegant piping detail, which Heuman has likened to a hand-painted finishing touch – the kind that might grace a teacup.
A Room of One’s Own: The whimsical garden sanctuary of Beata Heuman
A designer known for her inventive interiors and vivid colour palette, Beata Heuman brings the same playful spirit to the garden of her west London home. Shaped in collaboration with landscape designer Elizabeth Tyler, the layered, four-part space is a heady mix of structure and softness. With arches of jasmine, painterly paving and a hidden summer house, it feels like something out of a storybook – a natural extension of Beata’s creative world…
Beata Heuman shows her serious side in a landmark London Town House
If the ability to shape-shift is one of the true superpowers of an accomplished designer, then underestimate Beata Heuman at your peril. The Swedish-born, London-based AD100 talent is well-known for her delicious designs emboldened with captivating color, a masterful mesh of furnishings, and a smattering of whimsy. But her latest project, a Grade II* listed five-story town house in Kensington, is concrete proof there is more to her creative playbook than meets the eye.
